The fields of study define broad areas of knowledge to which the Faculty will refer their regular activities of teaching, research, technological development and services performed in the undergraduate courses and in the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
The research directions define the thematic areas in which there is decision and institutional willingness to carry out technical and scientific research and technological development activities. Each research directions can be associated with one of the integrated DEM acting fields of study..
The Research Projects are defined and coordinated by faculty members, each project can be associated with one of the research lines. The projects can result on Doctorate Thesis, Master's papers and TCCs (Final Undergraduate Project). Generally, the financing of projects is done by public agencies fostering research and technological development, but they may also be are carried out in partnership with businesses, public institutions and non academic institutions, being financed by them. The research projects are divided into two sectors:
Research Projects: deal with more fundamental and theoretical themes.
Development projects: deal with themes related to technological application.
